The March 2004 'Coeliacs and Chefs' event in Reading was a great success with around 100 attendees enjoying the gluten-free trail and a gluten-free buffet provided by the Global Cafe at RISC. In the two
'good eating, gluten-free' workshops, led by Karen Morton of the Gluten-free
Glutton,participants identified foods they miss - such as scotch eggs,
plum bread and shredded wheat - and foods that we still need good substitutes
for - such as donuts and batter mix. The evening
also saw the first Gluten-free Glutton Awards. A variety of eating places,
from cafes to posh restaurants, were nominated by Berkshire Coeliac Group
members for being especially helpful to coeliacs.
